All participants are required to have their bikes in excellent working order before the trip begins. Also required: helmet, hydration pack, eye protection and appropriate clothing. Kneepads are strongly recommended. All participants are required to bring extra brake pads, tubes, a patch kit, and any other parts specific to your bike. We will send you a detailed list of required equipment and clothing before departure. A variety of quality high-performance bike rentals are available for between CAD $70.00 - $80.00 plus tax per day. Please inquire with us if you would like more information.

The technical ability level required for Tuscany Women Only is rated as ‘intermediate and above.’ An easy pedal from the hotel accesses trails on forested hills each with a series of fun cross-country singletrack loops and descents. Climbs are most often on dirt roads and doubletrack. There are also several longer loops that traverse gently rolling fields, through sections of forests, olive groves and vineyards. Each day we’ll set out after breakfast and ride until 12:30 or 1:00 for lunch. There will be optional short rides in the afternoon, or you can choose to spend it as you wish.

Our hotel is a 10-minute walk the hilltop town of Massa Maritima. With it’s own vineyard and several buildings set in a few acres of land, hotel Massa Vechia features a large swimming pool and several terraces for relaxing, an impressive pump track, an on-site mechanic and full repair shop and great riding from the door. You’ll be unpacking once on this trip, there’s lots of time to relax. Please let us know if you have any dietary needs.

The end of September is a perfect time to be in Tuscany. The sea is warm for swimming, nights are still warm and days are very comfortable for riding bikes with temperatures in the mid-20’s celcius. Also, it’s time to harvest the grapes so the region is busy.

The following is a general outline for the Tuscany Woman’s Only trip. About Experience Provider

World Oyster Travel

World Oyster Travel, an affiliate of Departure Lounge, is owned and operated by Marilen Rose. A native of Chile, Marilen moved to the United States over 25 years ago. While growing up in her native land, her family moved back and forth across the country several times. The exposure to Chile's vastly different landscapes from the desert to the sea and the unique ways of living adopted by the locals not cultivated the crucial life-skill of adaptation, but also a desire and need within Rose to always be open-minded, to make human connections by seeking and holding what is common to us all, to stay flexible and welcoming by experiencing new ways of daily living, and to be a lifetime learner.

When Marilen first moved to the United States she had to first learn the new, local language and, after moving temporarily to another continent altogether, she came back and earned a degree in Psychology. In between those years, she had also spent time studying and living in the Canary Islands in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain, where she got her first college degree in Tourism Business Management. Combining the two degrees with her lifetime experiences, she has now come full circle in her career.

"I loved learning about the travel and hospitality industry and my heart was also full from spending quality time in other countries and learning to live life like the locals do. It was a transformational experience and I decided I would one day enable others to enjoy their own travel experiences."

"I'm passionately sharing my own experience and inspiring others to have a deeply grounding and revitalizing experience or vastly enjoy an unforgettable journey, with each and every trip. I have visited many countries in North, Central and South America, Europe and Africa and have lived in 3 different countries in different continents. I’m equally fluent in English and Spanish, can have basic conversations with people speaking Portuguese and Italian, and I have many friends all over the world. My main objective is to help you find trips that are a perfect match to what you are looking for or are curious about, have access to special additions, upgrades, amenities or enhancements with the best that the local destination has to offer, and for you to come back home with a unique experience that will forever live in your memory. What better gift can there be than an experience of a lifetime!”

“My favorite trips to plan are expeditions, unique local adventures and experiences, family reunions and special celebrations, food and wine experiences, transformational or balancing retreats, snow and mountain sports, destination weddings and elopements, honeymoons and anniversaries, women trips, men trips, and trips to learn skills from the origin or hub (cooking, cycling, survival, motorcycle, wine-making, sustainability, homesteading, etc.) My favorite destinations to send travelers to are Patagonia, Iceland, Spain, Italy, Scandinavia, UK, and North, Central and South America. I am also a Virtuoso Family Travel and Australis Cruise Specialist (Patagonia region.)”

In her occasional free time, Marilen prefers to stay active, spend time outdoors and quality time with her family, reconnect with old friends or make new ones, networking with other entrepreneurs, constantly learning more about holistic health and wellness, designing and planning life-changing experiences and retreats, attending live music shows and festivals, and she's also been known to enjoy knitting, cooking, wine-tasting and playing tennis and basketball when the opportunity presents itself.
